PROBLEM: Error message: "Sorry, an error has occured saving to the file. (file write error: file may be read-only.)"
RESOLUTION: Let "Everyone" have full access to "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard"

NOTE:
The error only occurs when users (bigcheese has no problem, maybe permissions issue) save scanned documents as PDF (otherwise no errors).

PROBLEM: Scanned documents cannot be saved as PDF. Error message: "Cannot write file: may be read-only!".

RESOLUTION: Downloaded and installed ScanJet 7400c/7450c/7490c PrecisionScan Pro update from HP.com. For more infomation, see http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&product=59553&lang=en&os=228 under Software.

The scanner hasn't disconnected since I installed the computer juline.

Intel Celeron 334 MHz
Asus P2L97
128 MB RAM
Windows XP Pro SP2
HP ScanJet 7400c (USB)

on PHYS_CLAB Domain

test purpose only. upgraded memory to 256MB (borrowed 128MB SIMM from the computer named elba). temporarily replaced clab1. will monitor to see if the scanner still keeps disconnecting.
