  • To install the software on the new computer, type the following command:
    dpkg --set-selections < installed-software

  1. Reimag the computer with physoc computer image, which has dual boot of Windows 7 & Ubuntu 12
  2. Installed Windows updates all software listed above
  3. Installed Ubuntu updates
  4. Uploaded a new master image for hebb203 lab

Reimage the computer with henn203 image

  1. Reimag the computer from henn203 image
  2. After reimaging, the system boot into grub rescue, to solve this problem, boot from Ubuntu LiveCD, open Terminal, and type in the following command:
    sudo disk -l (find the Linux partition, it should be /dev/sda4)
    sudo mount /dev/sda4 /mnt
    sudo grub-install --root-directory=/mnt /dev/sda
    mount -o bind /dev /mnt/dev
    mount -o bind /proc /mnt/proc
    chroot /mnt bash
    sudo update-grub
    reboot
  3. Reboot the computer from hard disk, open Terminal, make the following changes:
    sudo vi /etc/hostname (to change the hostname to cobra)
    sudo update-grub (to Windows 7 partition and list it on grub menu)
    sudo vi /etc/fstab (change linux partition to use /dev/sda4 instead of using UUID)
    sudo  rm /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-screensaver.desktop (to stop screensaver from running on startup)
  4. Restart the computer and boot from Windows 7, and make the following changes:
    Start > Settings > Control Panel > System, change the computer name to cobra, and then reboot
    Run Windows Updates
    Update Software on the list to the newest version
  5. Create a new backup image for henn203 lab computers
  6. After creating the image, reboot the computer to Windows system, add the computer to phas.ubc.ca domain and activate Windows 7 and MS Office 2010
