Permit printing

You need to edit
/etc/cups/printers.conf and make sure to add ?reserve=yes to the end of
the printer lines. For example: Device URI lpd://printsvr/oki?reserve=yes |

Preventing gnome
startup from getting all messed (no menus) or not even starting. |
You need to make
sure the .gconf, .gconfd, .gnome, .gnome-desktop, .gnome2, and
.gnome2_private directories are owned and writable by the user logging
in. In particular, you will need to adjust profown on alpha
to make sure the correct ownerships and permmissions happen. See
gradsec as an example. |

Adding menu items
to Applications menu. |
In order
to allow adding of items to the Applications menu: As root: cd /etc/gnome-vfs-2.0-modules cp default-modules.conf default-modules.conf-no-menu-editing cp default-modules.conf.with-menu-editing default-modules.conf Then you can open Nautilus (the file manager), navigate to "application:///" and right-click to add items. For any user you want to have the right to edit their menu, you need to do this as the user: cd ~/.gnome2/vfolders cp /etc/X11/desktop-menus/applications.menu applications.vfolder-info |
