PROBLEM: SMTP connection failed.
ACTION: Troubleshoot the problem with the help of Ron:
  • ipconfig /all. DHCP mode. everything looks right except for the dns suffix. DNS suffix: priv.phas.ubc.ca, priv.phas.ubc.ca (same as primary dns suffix. two entries???), phas.ubc.ca, ubc.ca (hmm...how come there are mulitple dns suffixes?)
  • nslookup smtp. getting the correct info. alias: smtp.priv.phas.ubc.ca
  • nslookup smtp.priv.phas.ubc.ca. same result as "nslookup smtp".
  • nslookup smtp.phas.ubc.ca. no problem. alias: smtp.phas.ubc.ca
  • ping smtp.phas.ubc.ca. wrong reply. getting the public IP address of smtp aka beta, instead of the private one.
  • ping 172.16.0.8. okay.
  • ping smtp.priv.phas.ubc.ca. host not found.
  • netstat -nr. looks right.
  • telnet 172.16.0.8 25. connected.
RESOLUTION: Removed the Primary DNS suffix on local computer. Also. Enabled the Change primary DNS suffix when domain membership changes. Rebooted. ipconfig /all. DNS suffix: priv.phas.ubc.ca. Tested online- OKay. I hope that's it.

PROBLEM: Light stripes across page.
RESOLUTION:
  • Ran Light Stripes Test on Xerox Phaser 8550 (aka luke) from control panel. A number of color stripes are missing.
  • Ran the control panel troubleshooting procedure "Eliminate Light Stripes>Basic". Done. Tested on-line - OKay.

Currently located in Henn 333A (Eileens' office). Used to be in Henn 325 (main office), which is plugged into a switch

PROBLEM: no network connectivity in Eileen's office.
RESOLUTION: power cycled the switch in the main office.
