Backup Tape Information

Last updated:  June 1, 2005
Two tape dirves are currently used for backup of the PHAS departmental servers.

1. StorageTek L20 tape library attached to one Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller.  It currently contains 1 HP LTO2 tape drive, sync at 160MB/sec, 68-pin HD SE LVD SCSI connector Ultrium-460: 200/400Gb, ?MB Buffer, Sustained rate 15 MB/s (54 GB/hr) native, 30 MB/s (108 GB/hr) compressed.

2. HP Ultrium-215 (uses tapes C7979A) Shares an Adaptec 29160 SCSI controller with a SCSI hard drive.  Sync at 80MB/sec, 68-pin HD LVDS connector Ultrium-215: 100/200Gb, 16MB Buffer, Sustained rate 7.5 MB/s (27 GB/hr) native, 15 MB/s (54 GB/hr) compressed, Burst rate of 80MB/s, data rate-matching range 6-7.5MB/s.

This drive is used to backup the NetVault tape indexes.  These indexes contain info about what is backed up to which tape drive.  These tapes are labelled NV-DBASE-XXX, where XXX is a number from 000 to 999.

3. HP DAT-40i tape drive , This drive is no longer used for backups.  Specs:  40GB,   21.6 GB/hr, 6MB/sec   (compressed 2:1).

I keep some tapes archived in the Hebb Building in Room 5D (basement), in a steel cabinet.  The key is on the set with the large aluminum Fob marked "HEBB PODIUM / TAPE STORAGE".
